These days, ready to eat food has become so widely available in supermarkets and grocery stores as they offer convenience to people who are busy with their lives that they have no time to prepare a meal. Indeed, it is easier to just shove TV dinner into a microwave oven, wait for it to heat up and, then, when it is done, you take it out of the oven and eat it. But have you ever thought of all the artificial preservatives and chemicals that are contained in ready to eat food? Have you ever thought what these might do to your body? Have you ever thought of the important nutrients that your body should have been consuming?
Ready to cook food may offer less hassle for people to prepare but in the long run, these unhealthy options do not help in making our bodies strong and sound. In fact, they contain artificial preservatives, flavorings and colorings that can even cause more damage to us. Store bought salsa, for instance, contain chemicals that help preserve the ingredients inside for a long time. But the thing is these same chemicals are not good for our bodies. At the same time, when you opt for store bought salsa, you can not fine tune the taste of the salsa based on your own preferences.
Rather than buying ready made salsa, it would be best for you to make your own concoction as you can be sure that the ingredients are fresh and you can tailor fit the overall taste of the salsa and make it as spicy as you want. What is also good is that making your own salsa is way cheaper compared to buying it in a grocery store.
Here are a couple of salsa recipes that you can definitely try at home and even serve for your next party.
Apple Green Onion and Jalapeno Salsa
1 1/2 pounds Fuji apples (about 3 large), peeled, halved, cored
1/2 cup minced green onions
2 tablespoons minced seeded jalapeño chiles
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey
4 teaspoons (packed) finely grained lemon peel
Coarsely grate apples into strainer set over large bowl. Press and turn apples to drain off excess juices. Transfer apples bowl and stir in green onions and chiles.
Whisk lemon juice, honey, and lemon peel in small bowl to blend; mix into apples. Season salsa to taste with salt and pepper. (Can be made 6 hours ahead. Cover and chill.)
Makes approx 3 cups.
Blinding Burning Salsa
10 – 15 Roma Tomatoes
1 Red Onion
2 Yellow Wax Peppers
1 Jalapeno Pepper
2 Serrano Chili Peppers
1/2 Bunch Of Cilantro
1 Tbsp Garlic Salt
1 Juice Of A Lime
1 Tsp Salt
1 Tsp Pepper
1/2 Tsp Of Chili Powder
Tomatoes And Peppers Should Be Seeded, Everything Else Is Chopped Fine And Mixed In A Non-Reactive Bowl.
Cover, Chill And Serve. Great Over Taquitos, Burritos, Eggs Or Forget Dinner And Sit Down With This Salsa And A Package Of White Corn Tortilla Chips.
