Living in freezing conditions, there is one thing the Czech's know how to do, and that's warm themselves up! Also lovers of stills and making wine of all kinds, the Czech's also have some very interesting spins on one of their favorite beverages, red wine. The Buy Wine Online team, in exchange for some well placed compliments about the legendary Skoda bicycle company and traded admiration for Chuck Norris (who is still one of the highest rating and considered TV stars in the country for his "Walker Texas Ranger" series) , has scored a blamed Czech recipe for Mulled wine.
We are not joking when we say if you buy red wine and combine it with this recipe you will beat the winter chill. In fact, the only real issue with the recipe is making sure you keep within moderate limits of consumption of this good wine recipe!
You will need:
2 cinnamon sticks
1/4 cup caster sugar
1 heavily grated nutmeg (buy some nutmeg and grate it, roughly)
2 cups of water
1 heavily chopped apple (skin on)
1 rough grated rind of an orange
750ml any other medium-full bodied red
1. Heat cloves, cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg, water, orange rind, and apple in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for 10 minutes.
2. Add the red wine and simmer for another 5min. Remove from the heat, strain.
This is an absolute gem of a European classic and is a perfect way to use red wine to its best possible advantage as an interesting and hearty warmer at winter parties and events. Please do exercise caution though as this beautiful red wine recipe is incredibly easy to drink and has a powerful kick to it. One thing we highly recommend is also serving finger food and even meals along with this tasty little drop to not only ensure things are kept on an even keel, but also to enjoy the mulled wine in its full glory.
After its Czech roots, we are assured any wine in Australia which is of the medium to full bodied style (such as merlot, cabernet sauvignon or a shiraz on the lighter side of its peppering) will make a sensational base for this tasty tummy warmer. Once you have the basic recipe down pat, why not try some different variations? What a perfect incentive to buy red wine this winter!
We hope you enjoy this winter party favorite courtesy of the Buy Wine Online team.
